About
Litter Box Picks is an independent site that helps cat owners choose self-cleaning litter boxes and the supplies that go with them. We explain how the machines work, which specs actually matter, and which models fit which households: one cat or four, kittens or Maine Coons, small apartments or big houses.
Who's behind it
Litter Box Picks is run by a cat owner. We're not veterinarians. Where health matters, we point you to veterinary sources and to your own vet.
How we research
We'd rather be useful than impressive, so here is exactly how our guides are made:
- Manufacturer documentation first. Specs, weight limits, cat limits, litter rules, included items, trial periods and warranty terms come from the manufacturer's own product pages, user manuals and support articles. When a figure only appears on a retailer listing or third-party review, we say so.
- Veterinary guidance for context. Advice about how many boxes you need, where to put them and which warning signs to watch for comes from sources such as the Cornell Feline Health Center, the ASPCA and the AAHA/AAFP Feline Life Stage Guidelines.
- Claims are labeled. Marketing claims like "4x better odor control" or "over 95% of cats acclimate" are attributed to the manufacturer that makes them. We don't repeat them as fact.
- Sources on every article. Every guide ends with a source list and the date we checked prices and specs.
- Updates. Manufacturers change models, specs and prices. We review our guides periodically and update the "last updated" date when we do.
What we don't do
- We don't claim hands-on testing we haven't done. Our guides are research-based. If we ever test a product ourselves, that article will say so clearly and explain how.
- We don't sell rankings. No brand can pay to be included or to rank higher.
- We don't make up prices. We show manufacturer list prices with the date we checked them, or a "check price" button. Retail prices change constantly.
- We don't give veterinary advice. If your cat's litter box habits change, especially straining or frequent trips with little urine, contact a vet promptly.
How the site is funded
Litter Box Picks is free to read. As of October 2026 we have not joined any affiliate program, so nothing on the site is a paid link yet. If we join one later, those links will be marked "paid link" and commissions will not affect our recommendations. See our Affiliate Disclosure for details.
